The Sacrifices that Jesus Made for Us were Purely Out of Love

I was asked to speak today on the best topic of all; Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. The first thing that popped into my head while preparing this talk was the word love. It may sound like a cheesy word, but the sacrifices that Jesus made for us were purely out of love.

Each letter of the word love means something that goes along with the Atonement and what Jesus Christ did for us on earth. "L" can stand for Leader. Let's say we were to vote for who we want to be the President of the United States. We would want to choose someone who stands for good things and does his best to meet all the needs of the people right? We would want to choose the best "leader" possible. Well, Jesus Christ stands for ONLY good things and He has already done more than enough to meet our needs. He is often referred to in the scriptures as a great leader. He is kind, knowledgable, loving, and beyond comparison to any other leader.

The second letter in the word love is "O". The word that I thought of that starts with "O" when thinking of the love our Savior showed us is obedience. Christ was very obedient when he chose to follow Heavenly Father and come to earth to die for us. When he suffered for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed unto Heavenly Father asking for the pain to pass but he verbalized that he will suffer through it in obedience to Him.

Now the letter "V" in the word love was trickier to think of. I came up with the word vigilant. The definition of the word vigilant is keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties. Christ was very vigilant when it came to the needs of others. When someone needed help with a sickness or just needed to be taught, Christ was there. He continues to be vigilant with our needs today. Through the Spirit, Christ can help us throughout our daily lives. Without that help, we would be stuck and not know where to turn or be taught but not receive the real message of a lesson.

The last letter in the word love is most important in my opinion. "E" stands for example. Christ was perfect. He was baptized even though he didn't need to be, just to set a precedent for us to follow. He gave blessings to show Priesthood holders how to be selfless in their callings. And he loved everyone.

We feel Christ's love through many things. When we repent, pray, feast on the gospel, or participate in church activities, meetings, or ordinances we feel that love. Tender mercies of The Lord also display the pure love of Christ, we just have to recognize them. In the primary song, Beautiful Savior, it says:

"Fair is the sunshine,

Fairer the moonlight

And all the stars in heav’n above;

Jesus shines brighter,

Jesus shines purer,

And brings to all the world his love."

This is true. Jesus is bright, pure, and loving. I would like to close my talk with my testimony. I love Jesus Christ with ALL my heart and I know he loves me even more. I know that He died for us so that we could live with Him again. I know that this church is true and Joseph Smith was a great man sent to do great work. I leave these words with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
