The Holy Ghost is a Comforter
Good morning brothers and sisters I have been asked to give a talk on the Holy Ghost.
Christ taught that after he left the Earth he would leave for his people the Holy Ghost.
John 14:26 reads
"26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
I really like this scripture because it outlines what the Holy Ghost does.
1) he is a comforter
2) he can teach all things
3) he can bring all things to our remembrance
He also warns us of danger or when we are not where we need to be.
To me most important is that he can testify to us what is true.
In the topical guide there is a section about the Holy Ghost's ability to testify truths to us. Some of he scriptures it gives include:
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.
17 For, behold, the Comforter knoweth all things, and beareth record of the Father and of the Son.
And lastly 2 Nephi 31:18
ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son.
The most important thing the Holy Ghost can do is witness to us that there is a Father and a Son in heaven. Once we know of this truth everything else falls into place. This truth can comfort us and strengthen our testimonies greatly.
I'd like to bear my testimony that I know Christ is our savior and redeemer, I know that this church is true and that Joseph smith was a prophet of god and that Thomas s . Monson is our prophet today. And I know these things through the Holy Ghost and I say them in the name of Jesus Christ amen.
